Session Expectations
- To ensure a productive Writing Center session, please come prepared with:
- Respect: Treat your tutor with respect. If you are disrespectful or unwilling to engage, your tutor may end or cancel the appointment at any time.
- Flexibility: Your appointment is subject to change based on tutor availability or APSU closures.
- In the event of a closure, your appointment may be moved to an online format or canceled. You will be notified via email if there are any changes.
- Collaboration: During your Writing Center session, you will work together with your tutor to improve your paper.
- Assignment Sheet: Come with specific questions or topics in mind to make the most of your 30-minute or 1-hour session.
- Please bring both your assignment sheet and the document you have begun writing.
- Failure to meet these expectations may result in your appointment being canceled.
- Session Guidelines
- Tutors typically review 2-3 pages during a 30-minute session.
- The goal is to improve your writing skills, not guarantee a specific grade.
- Tutors focus on addressing 2-3 types of mistakes rather than "fixing" the entire paper.
Appointment Cancellations
- Check your appointment time: Verify your appointment time and date to avoid conflicts.
- Change of Schedule: Appointments may be subject to change based on tutor availability or APSU Closures. You will be notified by your email if any changes occur.
- No-Show Policy: Appointments will be marked as no-show and canceled if you arrive:
- 5 minutes late for a 30-minute appointment
- 10 minutes late for a 1-hour appointment
- Missed Appointment Policy: Students who miss more than three appointments without canceling in advance will be unable to book further appointments for the remainder of the semester.
Appointment Limits
- Students may book up to 1 hour per day and 2 hours per week.
- Same Assignment: You may book either a single 30-minute session or a consecutive 1-hour session per day for the same assignment.
- Different Assignments: You may book two separate 30-minute sessions for different assignments on the same day.
- This limit ensures that all students have an equal opportunity to access tutoring and encourages independent learning by reinforcing concepts and developing problem-solving skills.
